Sarah Veak began her relationship with The Craftsman & Apprentice two years ago as one of our featured craftspeople at our Equinox Market. Turns out she lived right up the street! We quickly fell in love with Sarah’s kindness and way with children. As she showed the neighborhood kids how to throw on the wheel during the market. When she isn’t making pottery in her studio, she can be found making with kids here at the shop.
Heather Mullins of Relevant ReUse is a talented artist and woodworker. She creates one of a kind furniture and jewelry using upcycled materials. Heather is our resident woodworking expert. She used to run and teach at the woodworking lab at the Art Institute of Chicago. She makes woodworking accessible, safe, and fun. Look for her monthly wood serving board class, woodworking 101, and more.
Kelley Schei is an internationally exhibited visual artist who recently completed residencies in Iceland, Italy, and Sicily. Kelley worked as an educator at the Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum in New York and for the School of the Art Institute of Chicago. She received an MFA in drawing and painting from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago. Kelley brings a modern twist to her monthly watercolor painting classes here at the shop.
Sarah Neubert is a fiber artist. Her work ranges from wall hangings to wearable art pieces. We began our relationship with Sarah when she was a featured artisan in our 2015 spring equinox market. She now teaches our popular Weaving class. According to Sarah’s website, “As a teacher, Sarah seeks to impart to her students a sense of curiosity and adventure as they begin to explore the limitless possibilities within the world of fibers.” We’ve also collaborated with Sarah to produce looms for her weaving kits as well as for her workshops.
Jessie is by trade, a “builder of beautiful things”. She is the owner and mastermind behind the event planning company, Tangerine Room Events. She has an eye for design and detail which makes her the perfect candidate to teach our hand lettering workshops.
Shaunna is a super star in the baking game. She is the owner of The Long I Pie company and has recently opened her won brick and mortar shop, Temple Bakery. If you’ve been around Denver, hopefully you’ve tasted some of her goodies out and about. She’s funny, she’s smart, and she will teach you how to make a pie crust to rival your Granny’s.
Amie is a mama and maker with a baby love focused, Etsy shop called Imogen River Handmade. She moonlights as a macrame artist and loves river rafting, yoga and gardening.
Sarah Case is an author, teacher, and pattern designer. Her BA in Art and Textiles from Utah State University fueled her love of fabric, fibers, sewing and design. In 2016, she co-authored Transfer Embellish Stitch: 16 Textile Projects for the Modern Maker, a choose your own adventure textile design and sewing book. Her workshops at The C & a are based on techniques from the book.
Anna loves creating mixed media art and inspiring others to find their inner artist. She is passionate about arts integration, having spent 15 years as an arts integration specialist in EL Education and most recently supporting the creation of a national K-2 curriculum. When she's not chasing her one and four year old children, she can be found scouring her neighborhood alleyways for treasures for her next project. Anna will be our lead teacher and program director for the 2017 camp season!
