Join artist Rebecca Peebles for a day-long retreat-style beading workshop. Over the course of one Sunday, participants will learn and practice the peyote stitch while creating a personal amulet or badge-style jewelry piece. No experience necessary.
Peyote Stitch is a beading technique used worldwide and has deep roots in Native American art. A simple and versatile stitch, the peyote technique allows for creative flow and many, many possible applications. At a minimum, it's a stress-free technique with big meditation potential.
Various colors of seed beads will be offered for the sake of individual creative work. Participants will create a project using 11/0 seed bead rocailles (small glass beads) and to be introduced to necessary skills for starting/finishing, tie-in/weave-in and creating loops or tubes. There will be time to learn, practice and begin (likely also finish) a project, as well as the opportunity to play with pictorial or geometric designs within the final piece. All materials needed will be provided.
Take home: beadwork project (working or finished), beads as needed, 3 needles, portion of thread, beadwork mat, fastener (as needed), SKILLZ and know-how.
Class is from 10am-3 pm with catered lunch from Olive and Finch. Orders will be taken upon arrival.
We are offering a second workshop with Rebecca Peebles, Beadwork Workshop: Brick Stitch, on February 16th. Students who wish to sign up for both will receive a 10% discount. Just select the ticket option for both workshops ($270) when registering.
